Go and catch one of the worlds revered band at the Roy Thomson hall. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The PHJB began touring in 1963 and has traveled worldwide spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz.

Many of the band’s charter members performed with the pioneers who invented jazz in the early twentieth century including Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, and Bunk Johnson. These founding artists and dozens of others passed on the lessons of their music to a younger generation who now follow in their footsteps like the current lineup.

Christmas Creole-style is a great way to bring in the new year.

Jazzing up the Blue Jays new logo launch party at Rogers Centre!

Recently JAZZITUP was chosen as the number one band in the city to perform at the lavish unveiling of the Toronto Blue Jays new logo. Held at the Rogers Centre with of the cities sports media in attendance, our jazz band got a chance to perform great standards and even an exciting version of ”Take me out to the ball game” which was a home run with the audience.

A truly fantastic event held on November 3rd at the Royal York hotel to celebrate recipients of best new product awards as chosen by the Canadian Office Product Association (COPA). Jazzitup’s Quintet performed for more than 250 guests in attendance and during the silent auction.

British Jazz Award Singer Claire Martin to make her Toronto debut at the Old Mill Inn

Incredibly talented British Jazz singer Claire Martin who was recently appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire on the Queen’s Birthday 2011 Honours
List, will performing in Toronto for the first time. She has been instrumental in the development of the UK jazz scene and has worked with who’s on the European and North American circuit.

She will make her Sound of Jazz Concert Series debut on Monday, November 28, 2011, 8:00PM at the Old Mill Inn along with a an excellent backup band made out of the
best musicians the city has to offer.

He plays the folk-flavoured concerto by Russian composer Glazunov, and the jazzy Hot Sonata by Czech composer Schulhoff. Guest conductor Andrey Boreyko completes the programme with Dvořák’s beloved “New World” Symphony.

For those of you who may not have heard, New-York based Jazz saxophonist Flautist and educator Don Braden is dropping by Toronto and is making the most out of it.

A musician of the highest calibre. He spent years playing with the likes of greats like Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Williams, Freddie Hubbard and Roy Haynes. An excellent communicator of every thing jazz that is perfectly matched with an imaginative technique and soulful harmonic and rhythmic sophistication to improvising. A well respected composer and arranger on his right, he will be performing some of his own composition with a stellar band mates from Toronto at the Circuit Gallery at Gallery 345 Sorauren Ave, Saturday November 12 @ 8pm.
